Customized Training & Technology

The Center for Economic and Human Resource Development (CEHRD),
located on the Alpena Community College campus in Room 108 of the
Center, is the division of the college responsible for extending
the rather considerable resources of the institution into the ACC
five-county service area. The CEHRD is the single administrative
unit and point of contact for:
- The Small Business Development Center
(SBDC)
- The Volunteer Center (including
VolunTEENs/Youth Volunteer Corps)
- Industrial Testing
- Customized Training
H-1B Grant - Concrete Technology
Solutions - Learn about how a grant received from the U.S.
Department of Labor will be used over a the next 36 months to
address technical skills shortages in three target occupational
areas in N.E. Michigan.
The Small Business Development Center
Alpena Community College is a regional site of the Michigan Small
Business Development Center, which offers technical support services
to the business and professional community. This service includes
assisting with the development of business plans; conducting market
research; analyzing location, staffing, marketing approach and product
selection; and assisting in development of policies and strategies
for product pricing, competition, promotion, credit and inventory
management. The Small Business Development Center also develops
on-going confidential and no fee consulting relationships with new
and established businesses and presents seminars and customized
workshops in such areas as small business management, recruitment,
certification, sales management training and financial management.
Volunteer Center
The Alpena Volunteer Center enourages volunteerism, responds to
community needs and promotes activities that improve the community.
It is located in Room 108 of the Center on the Alpena Community
College campus. Some of the many services include matching volunteers
with requests for volunteer help; providing community information
and directories, board training, networking and consulting; A College
Day for Women; Christmas Wish List, Elderhostel and the Association
for Lifelong Learners (ALL). The Volunteer Center places ACC student
interns in work locations and coordinates Service-Learning projects
through ACC credit classes. Team and individual volunteer experiences
for teenagers are arranged through the VolunTeen/Youth Volunteer
Corps office of the Volunteer Center, which is located at Alpena
High School.
Industrial Testing
The Industrial Testing Site is certified by the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers as a full range concrete materials testing lab. Cement,
aggregate and concrete testing is done for a variety of industrial,
commercial, and governmental clients, providing unique hands-on
learning for students. For information on testing services, contact

Customized Training Center
Customized Training programs enable local employers to provide specialized
training to their employees. This training is designed to meet specific
needs, may be conducted either at the work place or at Alpena Community
College, and can be conducted for any number of employees. For more
information, contact the CEHRD in Room 108 of the Center building
on the ACC campus.
