Policies: Student Rights: ADA:

There are some basic guidelines faculty should follow when they have students with disabilities in their classes:

  • Faculty should meet with students to discuss course content, expectations, and appropriate accommodations after they have received proper verification of the disability (written notification from authorized staff member). A simple statement can be included in a course syllabus to encourage students to contact faculty.

Students who have not yet contacted the Dean of Student Affairs/The Learning Center Staff for accommodation(s) should be advised to do so immediately.

Faculty, TLC staff, and the Dean of Student Affairs will collaborate on developing appropriate and effective accommodations for the student in the classroom.

When the need for accommodation has been verified by the Dean of Student Affairs/TLC staff, and a specific academic accommodations plan has been developed in cooperation with faculty, all college employees are obliged to comply with ACC's responsibility to provide the accommodation(s).
